2026 Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology

From August 21 to 23, the 2026 Belt & Road and BRICS Skills Development and Technology Innovation Competition was held at the Canton Fair Complex in Guangzhou. Xian served as a judge for three tracks: AI-Integrated Applications, Virtual Simulation and Metaverse, and Smart Governance and Public Administration. The projects demonstrated how AI can support fields such as energy, healthcare, education, manufacturing, agriculture, and public services. The experience gave Xian fresh insights into the practical and creative use of AI across different industries.

International Conference on AI & Digital Modelling in Energy

From August 5 to 8, AIDME-2026 was held at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing together researchers in artificial intelligence, digital modelling, and energy science. As an invited speaker, Xian presented research on ion transport in polymer electrolytes, highlighting the use of molecular simulations and data-driven methods in materials design. Xian also visited Nazarbayev University after the conference to discuss nanobubbles and future collaboration with local researchers. The trip offered fresh insights into AI-assisted modelling and strengthened opportunities for international research collaboration.

The 28th Discussion Meeting on Polymer Physics Theory

From July 18 to 20, the 28th Discussion Meeting on Polymer Physics Theory was held at Seoul National University, bringing together researchers to discuss recent advances in polymer physics and computational materials science. Xian attended the meeting as an invited speaker and presented research on the structural design and transport mechanisms of polymer electrolytes. The talk highlighted the use of molecular dynamics simulations, quantum chemistry calculations, and data-driven methods to understand ion transport and improve solid polymer electrolytes. The meeting also offered Xian valuable insights into emerging research topics and opportunities for future international collaboration.

Congratulations to Our Three Graduates! 🎓 (祝贺顺利毕业)

We are delighted to celebrate the graduation of master’s student Wenqiang You (游文强) and doctoral students Xueying Yuan (袁雪迎) and Yan Sui (隋岩). Throughout their studies, they devoted themselves to research, embraced challenges, and created many wonderful memories with the group. Graduation is not the end, but the beginning of a new journey. Congratulations to Award for Course Project Showcase (祝贺本科生课程成果汇报获奖)

Congratulations to the undergrads mentored by our group for cleaning up at the “Rational Design of Soft Matter Based on AI” project showcase. The team of Ye Kuang(邝晔), Qiyuan Wang(王齐远), Mengqian Sun (孙梦倩), DongluoWu (吴东洛), Weixi Deng (邓维熙) and Xinyi Zhou (周心怡) coached by Xian together with TAs Yan Sui(隋岩), Xiaohan Wei (韦骁汉) and Xueying Yuan (袁雪迎) took First Prize (1st out of 10). Another of team — Kai Peng (彭凯), Zhiying Luo (罗芷滢), Wanjie Xiao (肖婉洁), Zixuan Zhang (张子轩), Tianyu Xu (徐天羽) and Junfeng Xian (冼峻峰) claimed Third Prize. Over the semester they built molecular-dynamics models, ran large-scale simulations under varied conditions, logged the resulting sequence–interaction data into a custom database, and applied machine-learning algorithms to uncover how sequence patterns drive molecular interactions. A round of applause for their hard work and sharp thinking. May the skills they forged in this course keep opening doors in the years ahead!

The 8th International Symposium on Energy Materials Chemistry (第八届中国（国际）能源材料化学研讨会)

From March 21st to 23rd, 2025, several members of the lab participated in the event. Xian Kong (孔宪) gave an invited talk, while Yan Sui (隋岩), Xueying Yuan (袁雪迎), Zexin Zhang (张泽昕) and Zhuorui Kang (康倬睿) delivered oral presentations. Yan Sui and Zhuorui Kang also showcased their work through poster presentations. Among them, Yan Sui won the Prize of Best Poster. Everyone was absolutely thrilled!

2025 China Bay Area Science and Innovation Conference (C-Basic) (2025湾区科学与创新研讨会)

Xian attended the 2025 China Bay Area Science and Innovation Conference (C-Basic) and took the stage with a plenary talk showcasing lab student Xueying’s recent work on fluorinated electrolytes. The conference proved to be a treasure trove of insights—Xian left full of fresh ideas and plenty of enthusiasm for what’s next.

2025 Year-End Happy Hour (2025年终聚会)

On January 13th, 2025, the team gathered for a lively end-of-year celebration to reflect on their learning and experiences in the lab. Talents were on full display as some members entertained with singing, magic tricks, sharp reasoning skills, and even food connoisseurship—making for an unforgettable evening. The festivities continued with the team putting up couplets in the lab to ring in the upcoming Chinese New Year a little early.

The 6th Greater Bay Area Symposium on Soft and Living Matter (第六届大湾区软物质生命物质论坛)

From January 10th to 12th, 2025, several members of the lab participated in the event. Xian Kong (孔宪) gave an invited talk, while Yan Sui (隋岩) delivered an oral presentation. Tingting Yin (尹婷婷) and Xinqiang Liu (刘新强) showcased their work through poster presentations. Among them, Xinqiang Liu won the Best Poster Award (Second Place), and Tingting Yin received the Best Poster Award (Third Place). Everyone was absolutely thrilled!

The 2024 International Conference on Molecular Simulation (ICMS 2024)

Xian had a blast at the 2024 International Conference on Molecular Simulation (ICMS 2024) in Wuhan! He presented an invited talk titled "Rational Design of Novel Electrolytes Assisted by Molecular Simulation and Machine Learning". The conference was a fantastic opportunity for Xian to rub elbows with some of the big names in the field of molecular simulation. He soaked up a ton of knowledge and even had the thrill of meeting Professor Alexei A. Kornyshev in person for the first time. Xian was over the moon about this encounter, as he has been a long-time admirer of Professor Kornyshev, having devoured many of his articles in the past. It was definitely a highlight of the conference for him!
